The Lauterbrunnen Valley branches out from Interlaken with sheer rockfaces and towering mountains on either side, attracting an army of hikers and mountain bikers. Do you see the grass reaped and the reaper? It is a distinct scene in Switzerland. It seems to me that all farmers in Switzerland grow grass. Even on the very steep mountain area, you can see reapers. Maybe large lawns are both for virescence and for growing milk cow. |
What is inside the valley? You have to explore by yourself. We walked when we saw a fall from the train station. The alternate way is to rent a mountain bike. We had to stop our journey when we realized that it was too far to walk through the valley. Anyway we arrived at the Staubbach Fall. |
You can find typical Swiss houses here and there in Lauterbrunnen Valley. Wooden houses with vivid flower at the windowsill. The windows are usually green in color. |
From Lauterbrunnen, you can go to Murren via the funicular. You are at a place where there are both snow and grass. Cow bells echo in the valley and you can walk in the village or to other villages. |
Murren is a place where you can have a close and clear view of three Alp peaks: Jungfrau, Monch and Eiger. |
Although there is Stechelberg cable car which runs up to Schilthorn (2971m). It is said that there is a fantastic panorama from the top and film shows will remind you that James Bond performed his stunts here in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", We chose to climb the hill by ourselves. Isn't it a pleasant thing to have a rest on the narrow meandering footpath with blooming wild flower? |
But we did not finish our trip to the top of the mountain because we found that the path was end in front of a farmer house. So we went down hill and planed go to the opposite mountain Wengen from where you can reach Jungfraujoch (the highest train station in Europe) via Cable Cars. But I have to say that the view of Jaufrau from Murren is better than that from Wengen. We did not go to Jungfraujoch because the price of train is expensive (Swiss Pass has 25% discount). We didn't know if it is worth going. An Chinese old poem said: "One can never discern the true face of the mountain Lu, if one can only look out from within these hills". We have seen the Jaugfrau peak from the opposite mountain, if we went to jaugfrau peak itself, we would find nothing more than what we have seen. |
