Semester 2, 2019 - 2020

This is the course website for the MAS2903 Introduction to Bayesian Methods module taught by Dr. Lee Fawcett.

Schedule of lectures and tutorials

Lectures take place on Mondays (3pm-4pm) in Lecture Theatre 1, and Thursdays (1pm-2pm) in Lecture Theatre 1 of the Bedson Building.

In addition to the lectures there are problems classes (odd teaching weeks) and drop-ins (even teaching weeks) on Thursdays (2pm-3pm) in Lecture Theatre 1 of the Bedson Building.

There are also occasional computer practical classes. When these do take place, they will be on Tuesdays (12pm-1pm) in the Herschel PC cluster.

My office hours are between 1-2 on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Background reading

The book Peter M. Lee - Bayesian Statistics: An Introduction - provides an excellent (and accessible!) introduction to the world of Bayesian Statistics.

James Stone - Bayes' Rule: A Tutorial Introduction to Bayesian Analysis

John Krushke - Doing Bayesian Data Analysis: A Tutorial with R, JAGS, and Stan

You might also find the book by Sharon Bertsch-McGrayne - The Theory That Would Not Die: How Bayes' Rule Cracked the Enigma Code, Hunted Down Russian Submarines, and Emerged Triumphant From Two Centuries of Contoversy - really interesting!
