MAS8306

Semester 2, 2017 - 2018

This is the course website for the Environmental Extremes topic in MAS8306: Topics in Statistics taught by Dr. Lee Fawcett.

Schedule of lectures, tutorials and computer practicals

Lectures take place on Mondays (10am-11am and 3pm-4pm) in Teaching Room 2 on the fourth floor of the Herschel Building.

Tutorial time, individual feedback sessions and private study time will replace some of the lectures; you will be notified in advance when this happens.

No computer practical sessions have been scheduled. However, some ad hoc sessions might replace lectures; you will be notified in advance when this happens.

Background reading

The book by Stuart Coles - An Introduction to Statistical Modeling of Extreme Values - provides an excellent (and accessible!) introduction to the world of Extreme Value Theory.

The short course given by Lee Fawcett and David Walshaw at the University of British Columbia in July 2009 might also be useful.
