Notes on Exam Marks Released in NESS

Please note:

  1. Marks reported in February are Provisional (until they are ratified by the Board of Examiners in June).

  2. Marks reported are not percentage scores but indicate performance on the University scale, as described in the Degree Programme Handbooks (Stage 1, Stages 2–4), and under Individual Module Marks.

  3. Marks on modules external to the School may not be available in NESS as early as our own module marks; such marks will be reported as soon as they are available.

  4. Where you were absent from an exam, a return mark is nevertheless calculated, using a mark of zero for the exam (and combined appropriately with any relevant Coursework). A fail due to an absence can be set aside only if an appropriate concession is requested and granted. See Absence from Exams for further information.

  5. On MAS1041, the two CBA Tests must be passed before the module may be passed (regardless of the Exam marks). If one or both of these Tests have not yet been passed, the maximum mark returned will be 34. Students who have not yet passed both of these Tests should contact the MAS1041 module leader, or the Stage 1 DPD, for information on future opportunities to re-sit the Tests.

  6. On MAS1343, a mark of at least 35 is required on the Exam (as well as an overall mark of at least 40), in order to pass this module. If the exam mark is less than 35, the maximum mark returned will be 34.

  7. The marks reported in February on some external modules running over both semesters, such as ACC1001, are interim marks based solely on the Semester 1 exam. The marks reported in June will be final overall marks.

  8. Any circumstances affecting exam performance (medical or personal) must be reported as soon as possible, and in any event before the Board of Examiners in June. See Personal circumstances for further information.

  9. Under University progress regulations, students not in their final year must resit all failed modules at the next opportunity. This is normally the August Examination resit period, which runs from Monday 22 August to Friday 2 September in 2011. Students will automatically be entered for resits in the appropriate modules. Normally the exam in January and/or June was your first attempt, and that in August will be your second attempt. See Failing Marks and Resits for further information.

  10. If there is anything about your marks that gives you cause for concern, please contact your Personal Tutor.
