MAS2317/3317

Semester 2 for 2014 - 2015

This is the course website for the MAS2317/3317 Introduction to Bayesian Statistics module taught by Dr. Lee Fawcett.

Schedule of lectures and tutorials

Lectures take place on Mondays (11am-12pm) in Lecture Theatre 3, and Tuesdays (12pm-1pm) in Lecture Theatre 2 of the Herschel Building.

In addition to the lectures there are problems classes (odd teaching weeks) and drop-ins (even teaching weeks) on Thursdays (9am-10am) in Lecture Theatre 1 of the Herschel Building.

There are also occasional computer practical classes. When these do take place, they will be on Wednesdays (12pm-1pm) in the Herschel PC cluster.

Background reading

The book Peter M. Lee - Bayesian Statistics: An Introduction - provides an excellent (and accessible!) introduction to the world of Bayesian Statistics.

You might also find the book by Sharon Bertsch-McGrayne - The Theory That Would Not Die: How Bayes' Rule Cracked the Enigma Code, Hunted Down Russian Submarines, and Emerged Triumphant From Two Centuries of Contoversy - really interesting!
