Lecture notes and slides

In the first lecture you will be provided with a booklet containing lecture notes and tutorial exercises.

You should bring your notes booklet with you to each class (lectures, tutorials, practicals).

Slides from lectures will be posted below after each lecture, together with solutions to tutorial exercises. The slides and solutions currently available are shown in green below; those that are currently unavailable are shown in red.

Assessment

In Semester 1, there will be one assignment (10%) and three computer-based assessments (combined total of 10%). Exactly the same assessment pattern will follow in Semester 2.

There will be a 2 hour examination at the end of Semester 2 covering the whole course (Semesters 1 and 2) which counts for 60% of your final mark.

Late work policy

It is not possible to extend submission deadlines for coursework in this module and no late work can be accepted. For details of the policy (including procedures in the event of illness etc.) please look at the School web site (https://internal.ncl.ac.uk/maths/students/late-work/).

Accessing your assignment marks

To access your coursework marks for MAS1403, you need to log in to the NESS database system. All of your marks for this course are stored in this system, and maybe for some other courses too.

To access NESS from a Newcastle University computer (or via RAS), go to https://ness.ncl.ac.uk/. Use your usual University login ID and password to enter the system. Your login information is retained until your browser session (all windows!) is closed. So to logout, you need to close the browser. Using the menus in NESS (on the left side of the screen), click on Summary under Coursework.

By default this will give you all your current Coursework information. To look at a single module, click on one of the module codes (you may have to click on Summary again to see your marks). To look at a single unit of coursework, set the pull-down menu to the relevant exercise, e.g. to Exercise 1, rather than the general heading Coursework.

Your coursework marks will appear in NESS throughout the Semester as they are released.
